Higher Education — Research & Business Development
Research Summary
This directory catalogs 51 higher-education institutions, programs, and alliances relevant to Schema Education's business development and ed-tech platform work. Coverage is split across six non-exclusive subcategories, each captured as a YAML subcategory: array in every profile's front matter:

|---|---|---|
new-institution | 2 | Entirely new universities founded or re-chartered in the last ~2 years, or launching in the next 1–2 |
new-program | 8 | New college, school, center, or degree program within an established institution |
eu-alliance | 8 | European Universities Initiative multi-university alliance (June 2024 cohort or related) |

edx-partner | 30 | Institution confirmed to operate its own Open edX platform (from biz-dev/sites-powered-by-open-edx/edx-partners/) |
5 institutions carry multiple tags (e.g., MIT is both a new-program via Schwarzman College and an edx-partner via MITx Online).
Why This Directory Exists
Learning-platform buying decisions in higher education follow 5–7 year cycles, with smaller tool evaluations annually. These profiles surface institutions that are:
- Platform-hungry — brand-new institutions still building their LMS/platform stack
- Platform-evaluating — established institutions launching new colleges, schools, or digital-forward programs that need their own tech decisions
- Platform-owning — known Open edX adopters where Schema's existing expertise applies
- Multi-institution buyers — alliances coordinating shared platform selection across many campuses

Caveats
- Contact data freshness: Presidents, rectors, and digital/tech leadership change every 12–24 months. Verify against each institution's current website before outreach.
- Funding figures reflect the most recent public source at time of research (April 2026). European alliance budgets are quoted in euros; US and LATAM institutions in USD or local currency.
- Open edX adopter data comes from Schema's internal research (last updated 2026-03-31) and the Open edX community Confluence list. Adoption status can change; re-verify before engagement.
- The
new-institutionvs.new-programdistinction is pragmatic, not academic — some entries straddle both (e.g., the Roux Institute is a new school-within-Northeastern that operates much like a new institution). Subcategory arrays let you filter either way. - ITAM Mexico was investigated but dropped: no new-model program identified in the target 2-year window despite extensive search. Revisit if a Tec21-equivalent Mexican initiative appears.
